SHURDINGTON D.I.Y. Weekend Just 6 Scouts and a few adults spent one Friday evening and all day Saturday refurbishing their campfire area at the Millennium Hall. What was a veritable junk yard has now been turned into a large safe campfire area, with ample ground left to have barbecues, practice outdoor skills, and easily find whatever they need. The fence bordering this useful area which was in pretty bad shape, was also fully repaired, and repainted. One final achievement was the erection of a metal flag-pole which was donated to the Group some years ago by a kind resident. Well done Emma Slee, Anthony Hanks, Kate and Oliver Roberts and Calum and Duncan Mitchell. Thanks also to Louise Slee who organised the event, Steve Hanks, Rob Williams, Tim Turton and John Godsell for their hard work and expertise. The weekend was dry, and went off without any major incidents; except for the Scouts' poor trailer which has plied the roads to many a campsite throughout the UK, lost a wheel whilst transporting half a ton of concrete ballast. I understand it is probably repairable, but as it is getting rather old perhaps someone knows of a strong trailer going 'cheap' which the Scouts could use for their future camps, expeditions and fund raising. |
