About 40
family members of the Scout Group, from parents to young children,
attended a very successful family camp at Warren Oak campsite, near
Ledbury the weekend of 5th and 6th September. This was organised by two of
the Troop’s Leaders, Louise Slee and Steve Hanks to celebrate our 60th
anniversary.
Five Leaders and helpers arrived on camp on the Friday evening to set up
activities, games and challenges for the two day camp. Late evening we
raided the local Tesco superstore to be able to feed 40 people for two
days, and enjoyed an Indian meal in the local restaurant.
Saturday morning campers turned up, pitched their tents, and the fun
activities started. The weather helped them all experience tree
recognition, A-Frame racing, air and water rockets, cricket, boules and
many more outdoor games, dough sticks on a campfire, challenge course,
mini catapult and a giant one too, Velcro darts; you name it they did it.
there was also a tree
recognition track round the campsite.
Late afternoon they all experienced a session of Rifle shooting, followed
by a campfire in the evening under a beautiful full moon. Adults mucked in
to prepare food and a bbq, and keep the place tidy.
One unusual event took place on the Sunday; worm charming. Knocking on the
ground in many different fashions to make worms rise to the surface. Some
did have some success; others just had a laugh jumping up and down on the
grass. Anything for a bit of exercise.
On Sunday a cake was decorated by the children with 60 candles.
The event was such a success we hope to repeat the camp in the first week
of September 2010.
