THE OLD VENTURE SCOUT DEN
AT SHURDINGTON - Clearout Nov.2005

One of the mascots of the Venture Unit was a Pink Elephant, which they had rescued from a jumble sale.

In 1996 the elephant went missing, but was later seen to have been somehow placed on the water tower of the Old Social Centre
No one owned up to putting him there.

Pinkey stood there peacefully for a few days until one evening a Venture Scout reported him missing. A daring call to the local Police Station proved positive. Pinkey had fallen off the roof and some kind soul had handed him in as lost property.

Relief all round, and the Venture Unit rejoiced - and celebrated at the Bell Inn!

In 2005 the Venture Den was cleared out to make way for the new Explorer Den.
The arm chairs were rotten and were thrown out but the memorable pillows with graffiti were preserved for the future.
